Jenna Nord, Professional Birth Photographer
An interview with Jenna Nord, Professional Birth Photographer, and owner of First Embrace Photography.
WHO DO YOU WORK WITH?
“I work with women and their families who are invested in preserving their birth journey- knowing that the story is messy, unpredictable, beautiful and above all transformational.”
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR THEM?
“I am a Professional Birth Photographer. I document the visceral moments of birth. I hand back to mamas their birth story to validate, honor and celebrate their motherhood and their child.”
WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO, PARTICULARLY AS IT RELATES TO SURROGACY/GROWING FAMILIES?
“I am a birth photographer because documenting the transformative in women is priceless, powerful, humbling, validating, and essential to my clientele. It is essential to advocate for women and women’s birth choices. It is essential to uplift women in their birth story. It is a tool for healing and education. It is a way to build a community around women and growing families. It is a testimony to the story that connects everyone involved to the baby coming earth side.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB?
“My favorite part of my job is being witness to new life. Documenting the family's reaction to the new baby.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY OR STORY FROM WORKING AT YOUR JOB?
“One of my favorite memories is both happy and sad. I had the opportunity to put my camera down and hold the newborn while dad tended to his wife. The room was full of angst, sadness, and urgency. The silence was crushing. I rocked the baby, just minutes old as the story kept unfolding around me. My choice of action felt necessary, gentle and humane.”
HOW DO PEOPLE GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU/START WORKING WITH YOU?
"The best way to reach out is to begin with my website. I want my clients to love what they see on my website and be inspired and drawn in to book their Birth Story. Clients fill out my contact page and we set up a Zoom chat. This is the best. We get to meet each other, share stories and go over the details. Once mama decides to move forward with booking we meet out for gelato or coffee!"
